Ministries
Building & Grounds
Chairman: Bill Johnson
The Building and Grounds Team helps keep our facility in operating condition inside and out. This includes, but is not limited to maintenance, mowing, trimming, and decorating the building. Some of these tasks are done in-house by our members and some require work to be done by outside contractors.
Christian Education
Chairman: David Weaver
Park Plaza has a strong emphasis on Christian Education. Our morning Sunday School classes offer an opportunity to study through Bible books, engage in conversation and form new friendships. We have four children’s classes divided up by age and five different adult classes from which to choose.
We offer classes for all ages with a variety of topics, formats, and interactions for learning. Studying the Bible and getting into the word is highly valued at Park Plaza and is vital for spiritual growth and Christian maturity.
We encourage all to get involved in our Sunday School classes offered every Sunday at 9:30 am.
Evangelism & Outreach
Chairman: Mark Scott
Evangelism means “good news.” At PPCC we aim to give away free of charge the good news of God found in the person and work of Jesus Christ. We desire to equip every member with knowing how to share their faith with others. At the very least we want our members to invite their friends, neighbors, and relatives to the services of the church. Hardly a Sunday goes by when we don’t have guests in our services. We love that. We would like those guests to visit our guest table in the church foyer to receive a gift and some literature about our church. Each month a “Get to Know Park Plaza Class” is held to introduce new people to God’s plan of salvation, how God desires his church to be run, and how Park Plaza came to be. We have the best of good news to share. We don’t want to be stingy with it.
Fellowship
Chairman: Leona Stice
The Fellowship team has teams of people to provide various areas of service such as fellowship dinners, funeral dinners and meals that are taken to the homes of church members after illnesses or after stays in the hospital. Committee members plan baby showers, wedding and anniversary receptions as well as various banquets.
Missions
Chairman: Bill Blair
The Mission Team evaluates the outreach of our monthly supported missions and builds relationships with these partners to promote His work. We review special requests to determine the support that can be sent to our monthly supported missions above their normal designated funds. We also consider special requests from missions not being supported by PPCC monthly. Our team shares in a time of prayer for our mission partners locally and around the world.
Worship
Chairman: Marshall Hinds
We encourage members to participate in our worship services in various ways that enhance our worship times or help with the preparation and orderly flow of our services. These can include preparing and presenting scriptural meditations which lead us into our times of communion each Lord’s Day and offering prayers on behalf of the congregation before the morning message or at other times during the services. For those who want to serve but do not feel comfortable speaking in public, we welcome volunteers who will prepare the communion baskets prior to the services and those who assist in collecting empty cups at the close of our communion time. (Other ways of serving on Sunday mornings are covered under the category of “Guest Services”.)
Technology
Chairman: Marshall Hinds
Park Plaza has made great strides in the area of technology in recent years which have not only enhanced our worship times but are a great help in our church’s outreach ministry. Those who are interested can volunteer to be trained and serve in areas including operating the sound system, running the computer program for Power Point and Easy Worship during services, filming our livestream Sunday and Wednesday services, learning to edit recorded services for downloading on YouTube and Facebook, and producing graphics for the recorded services.
Music
Chairman: Marshall Hinds
Music plays an important role in our worship at Park Plaza. Besides congregational singing, we offer opportunities for those with musical abilities to use these talents in various ways of ministry. These include playing musical instruments during corporate worship, sharing vocal or instrumental special numbers, adult choir and small group ensembles, and occasionally helping lead times of worship during our Sunday morning and evening services. Our choir is active during the fall, winter and spring months and especially participates in seasonal programs such as Christmas at the Plaza, Patriotic programs and Resurrection Day services.
Pastoral Care
Chairman: Larry Daniel
The Pastoral Care ministry involves visiting our church family members and our friends who are in the hospital, living in a nursing home or assisted living facilities, or who are shut-in. Our church also hosts a Grief Share group for those who have lost a loved one, and a Divorce Care group for those seeking help and healing after a divorce or separation. Our pastoral care team also keeps an updated prayer chain. Jesus calls us to help shepherd the flock and take care of the needs of the flock. This would be very overwhelming for one or two people but here at PPCC, we have many people who help in this area of Pastoral Care.
Men's Ministry

“The men’s ministry at PPCC has three parts (visual of a three-legged stool with teaching, fellowship, and service written on the legs): A men’s breakfast is held monthly (most often on the third Saturday of the month) at 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church building. Besides enjoying a hearty breakfast, the men enjoy fellowship and a time of teaching. A crew of men rotate on preparing the breakfast and doing clean up.
The men also enjoy a yearly overnight retreat at an area Christian Service Camp. The men’s ministry occasionally sponsors activities for church-wide events (i.e. trips to local sites like the George Washington Carver National Park).
Finally, the men’s ministry is involved in service projects (e.g. helping with tasks around the church facilities, assisting widows and other church members with various projects, and participating in the parking ministry of the church).
Ladies' Ministry
Chairman: Debbie Abbott
The goal of the Park Plaza Ladies’ Ministry is to encourage the women of the church to engage in Bible study intentionally, to serve the community and the church, to be encouragers of the church family, and to enjoy their relationships with other women through social events held throughout the year.
Regular activities include: Monday Bible Study – offered during the school year at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm; Brown Bag Lunch – the ladies gather the 3rd Monday of each month at noon to eat together with drinks and dessert provided and sometimes a program is scheduled; Games & Gab – a social gathering held the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm; Service Day – in lieu of Bible study on the last Monday of the month, several ladies gather to write cards to church members while others volunteer at a community organization such as Choices Medical Center.
This group of loving ladies welcomes women of all ages and stages of life to join them. Their activities are announced regularly in the Sunday bulletin.
Singles' Ministry
Chairman: Dianne Hermann
Park Plaza Singles Fellowship is a group of single Christians (widowed, divorced, or never married) who like to socialize with other Christians. We meet on the second Friday of each month (Jan – Oct) at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Members bring refreshments to share (hot/cold appetizers, finger foods, chips & dip, desserts, etc.). We have events such as movies, games, trivia, puzzles, art, and outings. The Singles Fellowship is open to all singles, not just members of Park Plaza Christian Church, and is free to attend.
Guest Services
Chairman: Jim Miller
We are a group of members of the church that are here to greet you each Sunday with a smile, handshake, and offering you a bulletin to guide you in your worship. We also provide parking for those in need of that service. We valet park your car at the door and return it to you at your request when you are ready to leave. We have a group of volunteers to help you find a place to sit in the sanctuary or help answer your questions about our worship service.
Youth
Chairman: Hannah Henady
Our Children’s Ministry is full of teachers who love the Lord and are called to share Jesus with children. We desire to help our students grow in their knowledge, faith, and love for Christ. This is offered through age-appropriate Bible classes during 9:30 am Sunday School, 10:30 am Kids Worship, and 7:00 pm Wednesday evenings. We welcome your family to join us for classes, fellowship activities, or other events such as Vacation Bible School. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you soon.
Preaching
Chairman: Mark Scott
For me (Mark Scott) preaching is like trying to wire your house with the power on—at the very least it’s exciting. I love preparing and presenting messages from God’s Word. Even after being in ministry now for over 50 years, I could not be more excited about studying and sharing the Bible.
The content of the preaching at PPCC varies. The default setting for preaching at PPCC is what is known as expositional preaching (i.e. where primarily one text is examined and taught in its literary and historical context). This style is followed over half of the year. And even when the series of messages is more topical, the message for that day is rooted in one or a few select verses. The point is that we strive to always be biblically rooted in every message. When larger Bible books are taught a theme might be selected as a way to work through that larger book based on a chosen theme.
John Wesley said, “I light myself on fire, and the people come to watch me burn.” That’s the sense we have about preaching at PPCC. Martyn Lloyd-Jones called preaching, “Logic on fire.” Join us in person or online, and don’t forget to bring your wood.
